Scriptures: Colossians 1: 16-20
Key Insights
Apostle Paul identifies 6 areas in which God set out to demonstrate the pre-eminence of His only begotten Son:
- V.14 By Him all things were created
- V.16 Through Him and for Him were all things created
- V. 17 He is before all things
- V. 17 In Him all things consist
- V. 18 He has preeminence in all things
- V. 20 By Him all things are reconciled to Himself
Abraham/Isaac relationship was a fore-shadow of the relationship between God the Father and God the Son:
- Abraham sacrifices Isaac on Mount Moriah, Gen. 22: 1-14
- God sacrifices Jesus on Mount Golgotha, John 19: 16-23
- Unless the world comes round to accepting the finished work of God through Jesus’ crucifixion, it will be condemned to sacrificing its own sons in one bloodbath or another.
Jesus among other gods
- All the other religions that are based on humans that have been deified aim at making bad people good;
- Jesus alone makes dead people live
Prayer Points
- Let’s acknowledge the wisdom of God in establishing the preeminence of Jesus in the 6 identifiable areas for the saints, church and the world at large;
- Pray and ask the Lord to open the eyes of the understanding of the church, on the one hand and the world, on the other, to the truth in the statement that peace in all its manifestations—personal, societal and international—can only be secured on the basis of acceptance of the finished works of Jesus.
- Pray and ask the Lord to grant grace and courage to His children so that they would not shy away from, but defend their faith against those that attempt to question/challenge their claims to uniqueness [of Jesus and the church He founded].
